Reading and math that builds real progress

We’re parents who went looking for a reading and math program we could trust for our own kids. When we couldn’t find it, we built it.

Why we built Savvy

Some kids take to reading and math early. Others need more than a full classroom or a once-a-week session can give them. We know, because we have those kids too. We tried the usual options, and the progress never quite held.

So we set out to build something different: a comprehensive reading and math program, taught by a tutor who shows up consistently, in a format made for how 5–12-year-olds actually learn.

That program is Savvy.

The curriculum

The curriculum is what makes it work

Most tutoring is a series of sessions. Savvy is a curriculum.

Our reading program is grounded in the Science of Reading, the research base summarized by the National Reading Panel across its five pillars: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Skills are taught in order, and each level builds on the one before. Reading runs K–6.

Our math program uses explicit, step-by-step instruction with visual models that build real understanding before children move to symbols, drawing on the National Mathematics Advisory Panel and the What Works Clearinghouse. Math runs 1st–5th.

New skills come back over the following weeks of lessons, so they hold instead of fading. The curriculum is the reason progress builds. How often your child meets their tutor is simply how much access they get to it.

The people behind your child's progress

The Parents Behind Savvy

We didn’t come to this as education entrepreneurs. We came to it as parents who wanted reading and math handled well for our own children, by people who knew what they were doing.

Parents first, company second

We went through the same search you might be on now: trying programs, sitting in on sessions, helping at the kitchen table, and watching good intentions add up to slow results. What we wanted didn’t seem to exist anywhere: one place that treated reading and math as a real, structured program instead of a stack of one-off sessions. So we built it.

The standards with which we build

Every choice in Savvy comes from a mix of what the research supports and what families actually need. A 25-minute session, sized to how long young children stay focused. The same tutor each time, so the relationship has room to grow. A sequenced curriculum, so each lesson builds on the last instead of starting from scratch. We hold Savvy to the standard we set as parents first: good enough for our own kids.

The Expert Tutors

Your child’s progress depends on their tutor. So we hold a high bar for everyone who works with Savvy families.

The methods are built into the curriculum

The methods live in the curriculum itself, Science of Reading approaches for reading and explicit, visual-first instruction for math. Every Savvy tutor is trained to teach those lessons with K–6 learners in focused 25-minute online sessions, to notice the moment something isn’t landing, and to keep young learners engaged.

Background-checked, every one

Every tutor clears a background check before working with a single student. We look for subject knowledge and genuine care for kids in equal measure. Your child’s safety comes first. We match each child with a tutor who fits how they learn. If it isn’t the right fit, we’ll find another at no extra cost. The relationship matters: children learn best with someone who makes them feel capable and understood.

How it Works

Getting Started Is Completely Free

STEP 1

Book your free trial

Your child has a real Savvy session, not a test or a sales call. A trained tutor gets a feel for where they are in reading or math while getting to know them. You see exactly what a session is like. It’s free, and you won’t be charged unless you decide to enroll.

After the trial, you get an email recapping what your child worked on, the specific skills and learning targets from that session, with a link to plans and pricing. It’s a recap of the lesson, not a test score, a report card, or a roadmap.

Once you enroll, your child works with a consistent tutor for focused 25-minute sessions on a steady rhythm, meeting the same tutor each week so the relationship can build. Each session builds on the last, and new skills come back over the following weeks, so confidence grows as the work starts to click.

Regular updates tell you what your child worked on, what’s improving, and what’s next. No guesswork. Just steady, visible progress.

Curriculum that supports what you're already doing

Savvy’s reading and math curriculum strengthens what your child learns in traditional school, homeschool, online programs, or hybrid setups. We build foundational skills that work anywhere.
The traditionally schooled child who needs more practice than a classroom of 30 allows? We provide that practice using methods that reinforce their teacher’s approach.

The homeschool parent who loves teaching history but dreads math? We handle the math or reading instruction while you focus on your strengths.

The advanced learner who’s bored at their current level? We challenge them appropriately without skipping foundational understanding.
We meet your child where they are and build from there.
