What age should a child read fluently?

Fluency develops as children recognize words quickly and accurately. A typical reader progresses from about 30 words per minute in 1st grade to 100 words per minute by the end of 2nd grade. Many children reach a fluent reading level around ages 9-10. (Source: NWEA)

More Ways to Support Your Child at Home
